Dear Inga,

I understand that you have not been getting much work done this week. Please realize that if you don't do work, you won't get paid. And if you don't get paid, you don't get to live in your apartment. And if you don't get to live in your apartment, you will have to move back to Massachusetts to live with your parents.

My recommendation? Get work done.

No love,
Inga

Glarg, I am still reeling from something, such that I am unable to get work done this week!!! IT IS AWFUL and I wish it to stop. Why am I so inefficient?

"Eating healthier is not going well," she said, as she polished off a small bag of beef jerky. "I just get so hungry."

Plans got cancelled for the night, so I now need to decide whether I want to get a chair massage and be trapped here until 800pm or whether I want to skip the chair massage and go do...something else?

Also, my bus driver has picked up a peculiar habit of calling me a princess.

I just cancelled DnD for tonight, with about 6 hours of warning, because I'm exhausted.

I'm exhausted because I spent a long time yesterday working late into the night and then got up early to get to a 7am meeting (yes, it got pushed up half an hour). This inspired the following exchange:

me: sleep > gaming
him: sleep > gaming > work.
me: career > sleep > gaming
him: sleep > friends > doing obscene levels of overtime
me: current situation > wishing i could change the past
him: actively planning for and changing the future > panicking about the present
me: stupid = trying to run campaign during the week when i get up early << thinking i'd be fine on 3 hours of sleep = stupider
him: well, I certainly agree with that.

QED.

And our intern just gave my coworker and I necklaces of rubber duckies from Vegas!! Now, we can REALLY get our ducks in a row!

So, my shopping rant. I promised one, so here it is. In my trying on of over 40 pairs of jeans (no exaggeration), I found one that fit properly. One. Most of my shopping was done at the gap, so there are 6 different styles (Classic, Essential, Flare, Bootcut, Long and Lean, and Curvy), in which I need to try on at least two sizes, and all the rinses (average of about 3 per style) are a different cut within the same style. So 6x2x3 = 36 PLUS whatever additional sales jeans I found, jeans at J.Crew, and jeans at Macy's. Not to mention the trying on the pairs which fit several times to make sure that they fit better than the others. By the time I got to Express, I looked at the jeans and ran screaming.

Also, shoes this season are really ugly. I can't deal with peep toed flats or ankle high lace up bootie things. And everything's really shiny - like, actually shiny and plastic, instead of Firefly shiny, which would be good. Though, I did covet a pair of red shiny opentoed pumps and also some Puma shoes, but decided that these were cooler.

In other news, I'm likely buying a digital piano keyboard. It's admittedly not that impressive as a keyboard, but [livejournal.com profile] onetruedavid, the resident keyboard snob, tried the same model at Guitar Center yesterday and it didn't burn him. One of my coworkers is offering it for a small discount, so I'd probably buy it from him, since it has the benefit of 1) being cheaper; 2) coming with a stand; and 3) coming with a little bench.

Oh, and the big, news-related thing... http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/07/apple-introduces-ilife-08/ And I'm totally drinking champagne right now.

I'm currently involved in five disparate conversations. In one, we're in the WoW tabletop world, wherein I'm playing a night elf tinker. In another, I'm having an in character conversation with the monk from the Dungeons and Dragons campaign that I'm running. In a third, I'm talking to a work colleague about the correct way to clock travel and work time for overseas offices. In a fourth, I'm discussing potential outfits to wear to a bachelor party. And in yet another, I'm discussing getting [livejournal.com profile] onetruedavid drunk on sangria and discussing the game of footsie.

Multitasking == thinking inefficiently about many things

I am in such a good mood today. I know my posts are usually doom and gloom, but today? Seriously, nothing can bring me down.

I woke up this morning and decided that I was going to sleep in a little because I was vaguely exhausted. Got up and found a pair of jeans in my closet that I haven't worn in a while (like, years) and decided to try them on. Lo and behold, they FIT! And looked GOOD!!! So now I'm prancing around in black jeans and awesome boots and feeling very sexy.

And then I bestowed chocolate upon the tech team, and got assigned new responsibilities, which include coding! (In Javascript, admittedly, but that's still pretty good anyway...) And now I'm so swamped with things to do!

So, quickly, on with the listening to Gwen Stefani and Beyonce and Kelis. Today is totally a day for girly hip-hop. But first, sauntering to a meeting, sashaying with the best of them.

back in the exciting-but-not-overwhelmingly-so world of menlo park, california. today's travel adventure was the 1 hour walk to the post office to pick up my mail and the 1 hour walk back before sitting down to do precisely 3 hours of work. which was basically me looking through the giant giant piles of email that i had.

my inbox is empty again, so i can breathe.

for those of you interested in my trip, read on )

well, there you have it, folks, nothing much to see here.

AUNTIE SHREW
I came here to inform you that the frost is off the ground and Moving Day is at hand. Prepare to move your very very odd family. Good day.

[.....]

AUNTIE SHREW
What did I tell you? Moving Day!

MRS BRISBY
It can't be!

AUNTIE SHREW
It certainly can! I don't suppose you've packed!

MRS BRISBY
What about Timmy? The chill in the air could kill him!

AUNTIE SHREW
Well child, that tractor surely will. For the last time, get your children out of here, before it's too late!

It's too late. The tractor's engine suddenly springs to life with a ROAR. Auntie Shrew runs off to warn the field.

AUNTIE SHREW
Run! Run for your lives, run! It's Moving Day! Run! The plow is here! Run!

Heads pop out of holes, animals sit up to hear. Warning signals get passed. Soon, every animal is running out of the field as fast as they can.

AUNTIE SHREW
Run! Get out!

My company's ski trip in Tahoe was, for me, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. We left campus around 530 on Wednesday morning, and returned Thursday at 4pm.

Getting there. )

At the lodge )

Skis? SKIS? We don't need no steeeenking skis. )

Ah, MTV. )

Alcohol + 20somethings + good cover band = mayhem )

End of the story... )

And that's a wrap.

wow, whirlwind insanity of new york. I'm still utterly in love with this city.
prismakaos: (Default)
I'm trying to judge interest for a D&D 3.5e campaign to be run by me either Saturday or Sunday afternoons (ideally before dinner). I ran a couple of one shots earlier this year, and I tend to do pretty traditional type dungeon crawl scenarios. No official campaign setting yet, since I'm still trying to decide whether it's worth it, but it'll be a made-up world (ie, not Faerun or Eberron) with a typical D&D setup.

Let me know if you're interested by responding to the email i sent to gaming-society, and what day you can make it. We'll probably be playing somewhere on campus.

---------------

in other news, i'll be in new york city next week, Jan 28-Feb 4. Anyone around?

I had the weirdest dream last night. Further details... )

I'm really not entirely sure where the dream came from - there were some overtones from various conversations I'd had last night, but nothing overt.

leaving tonight! leaving tonight! whoo!! ::does a little dance::

however, at work, today, i currently have 1.5 free hours not filled with meetings. yay holiday rush!!
prismakaos: (Default)
today, i am happy about: the fact that my work inbox is not full to overflowing. I have tons of crap I need to get done by tomorrow, but that's all right, since what else is new? ;)

today, I am less happy about: time is running out. I'll have to go back tomorrow. As always, I don't really want to do this. I'd rather stay at home and telecommute, or even take occasional trips to NYC. California? Kind of damn far from a lot of people I love. Damn far.

today, I wish that: there were a secret membership somewhere to allow me to get cheap cross-country airfare. And only I knew about it. Then, I could buy cheap plane tickets and come home all the time. That would be awesome.
