I'm looking for someone who knows someone in White Rock, Canada (or who could drive to White Rock) who'd be willing to pick up some chairs for me and then either ship them to me or hold them until I can finagle a way to pick them up.

Conversely, if someone knows where I can find a set of 4 blue/birch Roger Ikea chairs, that would also work. :)

So I'm moving in two weeks. This is a rather frightening prospect, given that I have lived in my little studio in Menlo for 3.5 years. This is almost as long as my entire Stanford career. (In other news, my 5 year reunion is coming up -- gawd, I feel old.) In any case, I am full of trepidation, excitement and general butterflies regarding this newfangled thing -- I'm moving to the city which, as Devon put it, is a maze of one-way streets and homeless people, and I'm moving in with roommates, one of which I know, and one of which I have yet to find. At least I still work down here, so I'll be able to hang out with Peninsula folken for dinner and games and whatever.

In gamery news, World's End was freaking amazing. I cannot express to you how completely ridiculous the game was, but as a snippet, here is how initiative went*:

You're about to be attacked by ninjas riding T-rexes. )

Anyway, awesome and bizarre. Everyone should make Black run it again so they can also play.

In work news, Sinfest has completely described my life for the past few weeks:

Apartment of awesomeness: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/apa/1147552903.html

Problem: Need additional roommate (preferably female) with no cats because I suffocate. Suggestions/leads/advice? Anyone interested?

Looking for apartments is really frustrating, especially if you're narrowed down to the Haight area of San Francisco during summer...

R.I.P. Dave Arneson. Although not as touted as Gygax, you were still pretty frikkin' important to D'n'D and will be missed...

Sad, but at least Heaven'll have a pretty good campaign going on now...

I need to buy an external hard drive so I can get some free space on my computer.

Anyone got any thoughts on external hard drives? Manufacturers to buy or stay away from? Size to get? I will probably buy mine from newegg.com to avoid the sketchy return policies of Fry's...

The "needs" game
The Rules:
Type in your name and the word "needs" in quotes ("[Your first name] needs”) into your favorite search engine and see what comes up. List the first 10 that actually answer the question.

Not actually inaccurate... )

Dear Immune System,

I thought we'd reached a compromise, signed a treaty, made nice with one another. I thought we were done letting foreign germs inundate my body, requiring at bare minimum drugs of three different types. I thought we had moved on to the typical a-bit-groggy-until-coffee wake ups. I thought for sure we'd moved past the bone-achy sniffly headache stage. But I see now that I was wrong.

I know there have been some slip ups on my side. I know I'm not getting as much sleep as I should, and I'm stressing more than my fair share. That is no reason to keep me up at 3am, shivering in bed when my apartment is a balmy 70 degrees, I'm wearing my warmest PJs, two pairs of socks, and a sweatshirt, and am curled under two comforters. I recognize that it's just above freezing outside and my apartment has a giant window, but for serious, Immune System, this needs to stop.

If I pledge to you to make sure I get at least 8 hours of sleep a night for the rest of the week, can you guarantee that the achy muscles and shivering cold will stop? I'm even willing to compromise on the congestion and headache -- after 8 years of migraines + allergies, I'm used to it.

I am waiting with literally bated breath for your response.

No love,
Me

I was amused to discover that Rene Auberjonois was the skull in the Last Unicorn.

Then I watched the documentary on the creation of Labyrinth, and discovered* that not only was Cheryl Gates McFadden a Muppeteer, but she was also the head choreographer for that movie. There are some pretty priceless scenes where she is directing the goblin corps.

*Marc noticed this first...
