Any chance of poking around industrial recycling bins (for bookstores and the like) and snagging those? When I moved out of the ant-infested rathole I got all my moving boxes from the USC bookstore.

Copy/printer paper boxes. Good size, lids, convenient handles, sturdy bottoms ...
