Did I mention that Windy's Chinese is closed? Forever? My favorite Chinese place of the last 5 or 6 years is gone. No more pineapple fried rice. Or sweet and sour chicken that isn't cloying. Or fantastic general's chicken. All gone. Auf weidersehn, mein Lieb.

As it turns out, this means it's really difficult to get good (read, not cooked in peanut oil) Chinese food at 3pm on a Sunday. Happily(?), P.F. Chang's still exists. I guess it's time to pony up the dollars and see if their food is an acceptable replacement.

Sigh. I'm considering trying to find someone willing to drive to Chico to see if the Windy's down there (which is/was owned by the same people) is still open.

P.F. Chang's still exists.

*twitch*

(do yourself a favor and go to either Castro st. in Mountain View or someplace to the north like Milbrae. Admittedly the "closeby" and "open 3pm on Sundays" makes it a bit more difficult.)

I actually never saw the draw of Windy's over Jing Jing or Su Hong. And there are a lot of nice little Chinese restaurants in downtown MV.

Jing Jing and Su Hong = cooked in oil of death (aka peanut oil). That's why Windy's was so great. No peanut oil.

Oh, interesting. You can probably understand why that has never occurred to me, but now that I'm aware of it, it greatly illuminates your opinion!

No more Windy's? Horrors!!! The only place with salt'n'pepper spareribs! Gone Forever! Admittedly, Su Hong has comparable food with lightning-quick service, but...salt'n'pepper spareribs! Oh well.

As for other food, I don't know if it's open at 3 pm Sundays, but Cho's on California Avenue has fantastic dumplings - and it's run by the quintessential little old Chinese guy. He's even got Chinese radio on in the kitchen.
