Apr. 3rd, 2008 12:31 pmFor National Poetry Month, I draw your attention to http://exceptindreams.livejournal.com , which was an LJ spotlight a while ago. In any case, she posts a poem a day, so if you're looking for a fix, you should check this out.
Sometimes I think the thing I like best about New York are the taxi drivers. This morning I had a relatively long conversation with my taxi driver about Egypt, America, and the Middle East. I made the "mistake" of greeting him with a cheery "Good morning!" and asking politely to be taken to 16th and 9th. His immediate question: "Where are you from?" "California?" "Ah, yes. I knew you weren't from New York because your 'Good morning' was sincere - it came from the soul." Which, yes, I know, cheesy, but still.
It made me miss the Middle East, so that trip to Egypt is absolutely happening at some point. And then what should appear in my inbox, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_uAdVpWiko , sent to me by
haelix, which is absolutely a belly dance song. So, yeah, I think I'm going to break out the Amr Diab and Khaled for the rest of the day.
(Mental note: when in Egypt, try mish cheese and see if it does in fact give one the strength to carry a cow across a canal.)
This morning is starting off well. I can only imagine how long it's going to take before it all goes downhill.
Oh, dinosaur comics: http://www.qwantz.com/archive/001197.html
