Epic V is over. I am sad about this, which hasn't been true of an epic larp ever for me. I was happy to see people that I haven't seen much of for a while, happier still to make more acquaintences, and happiest to have had a great time. I'm not a huge fan of larping, but as Bergy said, he wrote the character specifically to what I like to play in larps. It's simple and boils down to 3 things: 1) dragons. In this case, I was granted the ability to breathe fire in combat. 2) generally kick ass. Combat 3, powerful abilities to destroy a third of a city, and a self-reliant bent as wide as the Nile. 3) seduction. Yes, I know, it's cheap, it's predictable, everyone expects it, but it's still damn fun.

This year's epic felt more like a theater production than a gaming society event. I think that's a good thing - it meant a lot that people were focussed on people and building a story, instead of death-defying lengths of insane gaming. The problem of course comes when I look at this week and wonder whether I actually made closer friends with people or whether my character did. It's hard to judge OOC effects of IC interactions. For sure, Wael and I became friends and immediately bonded over being from the Middle East - oddly enough, I'd never met him before...

And soon, we'll begin spring quarter, and perhaps the end of an era. Many of the last remaining members of SGS prime will graduate and possibly go places other than here. If we are lucky, many will stay in the Bay Area and continue to game, although we might need a list other than the @stanford one.

...I feel sort of empty now. What was there for the last week was really special, and I'll be lucky if I see it again.
