I think Mike's statement should have been interpreted such that "fiction" = real events and "movies" = real life. Thus: What, don't you put quotes around "fiction" that happens in "movies?" should be read as What, don't you put [intentionally awkward] quotes around real events that happen in real life? ie, don't you sometimes disguise what you're saying by enclosing clearly fictious things in quotes?
