(no subject)

So I'm moving in two weeks. This is a rather frightening prospect, given that I have lived in my little studio in Menlo for 3.5 years. This is almost as long as my entire Stanford career. (In other news, my 5 year reunion is coming up -- gawd, I feel old.) In any case, I am full of trepidation, excitement and general butterflies regarding this newfangled thing -- I'm moving to the city which, as Devon put it, is a maze of one-way streets and homeless people, and I'm moving in with roommates, one of which I know, and one of which I have yet to find. At least I still work down here, so I'll be able to hang out with Peninsula folken for dinner and games and whatever.

In gamery news, World's End was freaking amazing. I cannot express to you how completely ridiculous the game was, but as a snippet, here is how initiative went*:

Black (DM): Okay, you're about to be attacked by ninjas riding T-rexes. I think we need initiative rolls.
(everyone rolls, except Peter)
Sandra (Maid, rolls a d6):  I do really well! I get a 9.
Albert (Intergalactic Cooking Challenge, rolls a handful of d6s):  4 successes
me (DnD 3.5, rolls a d20):  14!
Matt (Star Trek, rolls a handful of d6s):  The low end of challenging
Jeff (Transhuman Space, rolls a handful of d6s(i think)): 11.
Nancy (Spirit of the Century, handful of +/-/0 dice):  Superb!
Kevin (My Little Pony):  I go after after Peter. (MLP has a clockwise turn order)
Peter (Don't Rest Your Head):  (to Black) Um, so you need to roll to determine how difficult this is.
Black:  What's your intent for the combat?
Peter:  I want to avoid it.
Black:  (rolls a handful of d6s) Okay, I have 2 successes. (in this case, dice below 4)
Peter:
(rolls a larger handful of d6s) Oh, damn. What's your highest?
Black:  6
Peter:  Actually, what's your entire roll?
Black:  1,2,4,6,6
Peter:  Oh. Pain wins out. You can spend a coin to either make me more tired or go more insane.
Black:  More insane.
Peter:  (moves a coin from one bowl to the other)
Black:  So, I think Albert goes first?

*This is how I remember initiative going, specific numbers may or may not actually be right.

Anyway, awesome and bizarre. Everyone should make Black run it again so they can also play.

In work news, Sinfest has completely described my life for the past few weeks:

Et fin.

Sinfest has been describing my life through Crim over the past few months...except no girl, sigh :p

World's End mashes together a bunch of different systems?

Good luck with the move!

The World's End prompt was: create a legitimate character from any rpg system you like, and send a small description of the "conflict resolution system" and your character to the DM.

A nine is only pretty okay. My really good rolls were 15s and 18s ;)

The real point, though, is how fascinating and hilarious it was to watch Peter's rolls happen, which I think you've gotten across quite well, except it was even MORE puzzling and crazy. :)
