Consider a deck of cards. If you were design a deck of cards, such that a mythological/fantasy beast (or class of beasts) were each a suit, which four creatures would you use and which suits would they correspond to?

My current thoughts are :

Hearts - unicorn, ki-rin, (pegasus)
Spades - dragons
Diamonds - gryphon/griffin, sphinx, hippogriff, (pegasus)

And I'm completely stumped for Clubs. I couldn't come up with another beast type (humanoid, yes, but that somehow didn't fit).

When my brain goes to designing decks of cards, though, it jumps to full tarot suites, so presumably you'd want something fire-based for wands/spades, water-based for cups/hearts, air-based for swords/diamonds and earth-based for pentacles/clubs.

[some day I should dig out my "myths from around the world" deck to show you. It has a different myth for each suit--for example, cups is Arthur with Arthur as King, Guinevere as Queen, Lancelot as Knit, Morgana as Page, etc]

Nice -- I think I have the hearts and clubs reversed in this deck, tho. I'd love to see the "myths around the world" deck that you have.
